Furniture Glossary
A plain-English guide to furniture and mattress terms, so you can shop with confidence.
Not sure what a term on our product pages means? Here is a quick reference to help you understand the materials and features behind our sofas, dining sets, mattresses and wardrobes.
- Pocket Spring
- A mattress spring system where individual coils are each wrapped in fabric pockets, allowing them to move independently for better contouring and reduced partner disturbance.
- Memory Foam
- A pressure-sensitive foam that softens with body heat and moulds to your shape, then slowly returns to its original form once you get up.
- Latex
- A resilient, breathable foam (natural or synthetic) used in mattress comfort layers, known for its bounce, durability and airflow.
- Eurotop / Boxtop / Plush Top
- Extra comfort layers stitched onto the top of a mattress for additional cushioning. A eurotop or boxtop has a distinct raised edge, while a plush top is quilted flush into the mattress surface.
- Sintered Stone
- An engineered stone material made by compressing natural minerals under high heat and pressure, commonly used for dining and coffee table tops for its scratch, heat and stain resistance.
- Full-Grain Leather / Half Leather / PU Leather
- Full-grain leather uses the complete, uncorrected top layer of hide for maximum durability and natural markings. Half leather (also called leather match) combines genuine leather on contact areas with a matching material elsewhere. PU leather is a synthetic, leather-look upholstery that is generally more affordable and easier to maintain.
- Recliner
- A seat with a reclining backrest and, often, a footrest that extends, allowing you to lean back for extra comfort. Available in manual or motorised versions.
- Sectional Sofa
- A sofa made up of multiple separate sections that connect together, offering flexible seating arrangements for larger or open-concept living rooms.
- Modular Sofa
- A sofa built from individual modules or units that can be rearranged, added to, or reconfigured over time to suit changing needs and spaces.
- L-Shape Sofa
- A sofa with a chaise or extended section set at an angle to the main seat, forming an L-shape that maximises seating and often anchors a living room layout.
- Sofa Bed
- A sofa that converts into a bed, useful for smaller homes or as an extra sleeping option for guests.
- Sliding-Door Wardrobe
- A wardrobe with doors that slide horizontally along a track rather than swinging open, ideal for rooms with limited clearance space.
- Lazy Susan
- A rotating tray or platform, typically placed at the centre of a round dining table, that lets diners spin dishes within easy reach of everyone.
- Indent / Made-to-Order
- A furniture piece produced specifically for your order, in your chosen fabric, leather, finish or configuration, rather than sold directly off the showroom floor. Indent items usually require a deposit and a longer lead time.
- Solid Wood vs Engineered Wood
- Solid wood furniture is built from natural timber throughout, offering durability and a premium feel. Engineered wood (such as plywood or MDF) is manufactured from wood fibres or veneers bonded together, often used for structural parts or to keep pieces lighter and more affordable.
- POA (Price on Application)
- A pricing approach where the exact price is provided upon enquiry, since it may depend on your chosen fabric, size, configuration or current promotions. Simply WhatsApp us for a quotation.
